New in Studium: QR Code Attendance in Studium

A new QR code tool is available in Studium to simplify registering attendance. Students can scan a QR code to confirm their attendance, which is automatically transferred to Grades, eliminating the need for manual attendance handling.

During the autumn, a group of teachers and administrators tested a prototype of the new QR-code tool for registering attendance. Development was carried out step by step based on their feedback, with the aim of simplifying the process for students, teachers and administrators. The tool is now completed and will be available for all courses in Studium.

How does QR code attendance work?

You can find the QR code attendance tool in the Student List. It is linked to the course’s existing assignments. The teacher selects the assignment for which attendance should be registered. A dynamic QR code is displayed and automatically updated every 30 seconds. Students scan the code using their mobile phones and immediately receive confirmation that their attendance has been recorded. Teachers can view the registrations in real time.

Attendance is automatically transferred to the assignment in the Gradebook in Studium, which means that administrators no longer need to manually transfer information from paper attendance lists. However, it is still possible to mark attendance or absence afterwards for students who did not scan the QR code.

The QR code is dynamic and changes continuously, which means that it cannot be copied, prepared in advance, or shared with students who are not present.

Note that the QR code attendance tool is offered as a service in Studium, but it is still possible to use paper attendance lists or a combination of both methods.
