Out of 20 entries in the Coimbra Group 3-Minute-Thesis competition, Uppsala University has now advanced to the finals on 29 June together with two other contestants.

The Coimbra Group 3-Minute-Thesis competition is a European competition where researchers are invited to send in a video of a maximum of three minutes in which they present their research to a general audience.

The Coimbra Group is a European university network with 41 member universities, including Uppsala University, which aims to further internationalisation and academic collaborations and to influence European education and research policy.

Favour Onyeogaziri, PhD student at the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology, will represent Uppsala University in the finals.

How did you react when you got the news?

- I was pleasantly surprised and ecstatic when I got an email from Anna Ledin (Coimbra coordinator at Uppsala University, editor’s note) informing me I'd advanced to the finals.

What do you think made you a finalist? What stands out about your entry?

- I'm not fully sure, but I guess relating our research at the Elisabetta Dejana research group to plumbing problems struck the right chord. In my entry, I related coagulation and bleeding in the brain to leaky bathroom pipes.

What are your chances in the finals?

- We technically have a three to one chance of winning, but I'm going to do my best. My colleagues are a great support and I hope to make them and Uppsala University proud in the finals.
