Language and writing are constantly evolving. The Communications Division has therefore reviewed our Swedish writing recommendations on the intranet, Stilguide på svenska.

One new feature is that department names are spelled with an initial capital in running text, to make it clear that it is a name. Names of units and divisions should also be written with an initial capital for clarity, for example: “Institutionen för geovetenskaper”, “Nationalekonomiska institutionen” and “Ekonomiavdelningen”. You should also write the names of centres and campuses with an initial capital, for example: “Campus Gotland”, “Campus Engelska parken” and “Evolutionsbiologiskt centrum”.

In line with Myndigheternas skrivregler

This is in line with later versions of Myndigheternas skrivregler, which is why this change is now being made at Uppsala University.

The need to review the writing recommendations arose in connection with moving the University’s websites to the new Sitevision system. The update has been made by staff at the Media Relations and Editorial Services Unit, in close cooperation with the editors of the English Style Guide and Uppsala University’s contact persons for plain language issues.
