You now have the opportunity to propose programme items for next autumn’s national equal opportunities conference. Proposals for contributions to the conference must be submitted by no later than 15 March 2025.

Every year, a national conference on equal opportunities is held in Sweden for universities and other higher education institutions. The purpose of this conference is to help create a more inclusive higher education sector and a work environment where everyone working and/or studying in the sector be treated, and treat each other, with respect.

The conference is open to all those working in the higher education sector – students, doctoral students, teaching staff, researchers and administrative staff – as well as representatives from government agencies, companies and other interested parties.

Equal opportunity a quality issue

Uppsala University is hosting this year’s conference, which will take place at University House on 18–19 November 2025. Åsa Cajander, Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on equal opportunities at Uppsala University, is organising the conference along with individuals from different parts of the University and the Advisory Board for Equal Opportunities.

To meet future challenges, it’s crucial to take advantage of all the skills and different ways of thinking that we have. Uppsala University has established that ‘equal opportunities are a matter of rights for the individual and quality for the University’. A broad representation of different experiences and perspectives is always going to generate better solutions to complex societal challenges, and strengthens research and education,” says Åsa Cajander, Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on equal opportunities.

But we are also seeing global trends where matters of equal opportunity and inclusion are being questioned or given lower priority. To counter this development and ensure that academia remains a place for all, a national conference in 2025 is especially important. It provides the opportunity to highlight these matters and work for a more inclusive academic environment,” Åsa Cajander continues.
