What do you want to happen to your research results after publication? Why is valorisation relevant, and what does it even mean? These questions are at the heart of UU Innovation's new seminar series starting on 24 April. Hillevi Englund and Christin Wendel share insights into the initiative and their aspirations.
What is valorisation? What is this seminar series about?
Hillevi:
– This seminar series delves into the post-publication phase of research. Valorisation involves not only capturing the results but also strategically managing their application to ensure they are made available in ways that bring tangible benefits to society.
Why is this seminar series needed?
Hillevi:
– I hope this series will ignite the curiosity that leads to action. Many researchers aspire to make a positive societal impact with their work but are unsure how to proceed or what role they can play. These sessions are an excellent starting point for them!
Christin:
– The seminars also offer a platform to discuss and challenge various perceptions and potential biases regarding the utilisation, implementation, application, and commercialisation of research. We hope these sessions will foster open discussions and challenge existing assumptions.
The seminar series is aimed at researchers from all disciplinary domains. What can they expect to gain from participating?
Christin:
– Participants will receive an introduction to valorisation and related concepts, examples of fruitful valorisation by other researchers, and practical tips on how to get started.
Hillevi:
– We aim to convey that valorisation is possible and relevant for everyone, regardless of their research field, and we hope to instill this belief!
What is required of the participants?
Hillevi:
– Just show up! Come to Gustavianum, enjoy a coffee, and take a seat. We'll handle the rest.
