Uppsala University introduces Epassi wellness service

At the end of May, Uppsala University will introduce the Epassi wellness service. In future, all purchases of wellness activities will be made through the new service, which means that employees will not have to make any outlays.

Please note! If you have made expenses for wellness, it is important that you register this in Primula by 5 May 2025. After that, all purchases will be handled by Epassi.

Clarification

Due to the media coverage of Epassi, we would like to make the following clarification.

The contract for the Epassi wellness service was signed at the end of March 2025 and will take effect on 1 May. In the procurement process, Uppsala University has been clear about the requirement that the supplier must have knowledge of and comply with the relevant legislation in the area. In its tender, Epassi has assured that it has taken measures to prevent individuals and suppliers from incorrectly or illegally using their wellness allowance for unauthorised wellness activities.

In December 2024, Epassi launched the Epassi plus service where users were offered the opportunity to purchase unspecified wellness for the remaining wellness amount in 2024, and then use it during the beginning of 2025. In February 2025, a clarification came from the Swedish Tax Agency that each purchase of wellness must be specified. This meant that the Epassi plus service does not comply with the Swedish Tax Agency's guidelines for wellness allowances and it has therefore been cancelled. As Uppsala University's agreement with the company has not yet entered into force, we are not affected by the incorrect handling reported in the media.

The wellness service has been procured with the aim of simplifying and streamlining the management of wellness expenses and provides a great advantage for employees who do not have to make expenses. Epassi is a well-known player in the field and is deemed to continue to have our confidence.
