On 26–28 November 2025, the Baltic University Programme (BUP) will be holding a research symposium on security and resilience in the Baltic Sea region. Participation is free and the deadline for registration is 16 May.

Kiana Islamian
Kiana Islamian, project administrator at the Department of Earth Sciences, is the coordinator for the symposium.
“It serves as an arena to disseminate research and network for future collaborations. The event is open to junior and senior researchers whose focus is on security and resilience in the Baltic Sea region. If you are interested in meeting researchers in your thematic area from different disciplines and backgrounds, you should register for the symposium. It’s sure to be an inspiring and informative few days!” says Kiana.
The main theme of the symposium “Strengthening the Security and Resilience of the Baltic Sea Region – Environmental, Political, Social, and Economic Shocks and Crises” is subdivided into five thematic areas: Climate Change in Times of Environmental and Geopolitical Instability; Energy Security and Energy Transitions; International Relations: Cooperation and Conflict; Civil Society and Preparedness; and Resilient Food Systems and Water Security.
During the symposium’s parallel sessions, you will have the chance to present and discuss your research.
“The symposium will conclude with a Supervisor Collegium providing the opportunity to exchange thoughts and ideas about supervision with international colleagues,” says Kiana.
