As conditions change in the world around us, some may have concerns about what preparations they need to make in connection with international business trips.

Fredrik Blomqvist
Uppsala University’s Chief Security Officer Fredrik Blomqvist provides us with a timely reminder of what is important to consider before travelling abroad.
“First and foremost, we want staff to follow the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (UD) general travel recommendations and advice. The University does not produce its own specific travel recommendations for staff,” he says.
If you need to travel to countries where the Ministry for Foreign Affairs advises that you do not travel, for example to a country that is at war, you also need to make special preparations.
“In such cases, the University hires an external party to help organise the adjusted travel security measures required in each particular case,” says Fredrik Blomqvist.
He also just has some general advice for staff regarding all business trips.
“My advice is to always do your own, basic, risk analysis. It doesn’t have to be complicated. For example, you should find out what the emergency numbers are in the country you are visiting, how to get in touch with the healthcare system there, and how to ensure that you can make payments in that country,” he says.
