Hello there Johan Kreuger, Head of Division at the Division for Research and Partnership Support.

Why has the university procured a new database for research funding?

“The University has procured a new database for research funding, Scientify Research, which is powerful and user-friendly. The database contains information about calls for proposals that are relevant to doctoral students and younger researchers as well as to more experienced researchers, and can thus be useful to all researchers regardless of their career stage. Scientify is a database that provides a simple and quick overview of possible funding opportunities, both national and international and in all disciplinary domains. With several search filters, it is possible to quickly find the right funders and the right call for proposals.”

Why is it important for researchers to seek funding for their research?

“Uppsala University is one of the highest-ranked universities in the world, and often ranks around top 100 in the largest international rankings. Research is financed to approximately 50% by external grants. It is of utmost importance that all researchers and doctoral students continuously apply for funding, it is part of the job and it is important to know how to apply for grants. Our goal is for Uppsala University to significantly increase the number of research applications and the number of successful grants in the coming years.”

What support can you get from the Division of Research and Partnership Support when applying for external funding?

“The Researcher Services Unit offers broad support within research funding, research data, collaboration agreements, research ethics and the Nagoya Protocol. The support covers the entire process from application to project completion, and we guide researchers to other support functions. The unit also helps with budget and financial reporting for grant projects within the EU Framework Programmes, US federal funders and the Wallenberg Foundations.”

“There are research advisors with special responsibility for assisting researchers in the humanities and social sciences. The unit collaborates very closely with research support in medicine and pharmacy as well as technology and natural sciences. Please contact us by email!”
