In the Researchers’ Grand Prix, researchers compete to see who can make the most engaging, educational and understandable presentation of their research – in 4 minutes. This year, the national competition will be held at SciFest in Uppsala on 10 October.
Researchers and doctoral students from all over Sweden can take part in the national competition coordinated by Public & Science Sweden. They have until 30 June to apply by submitting a video explaining their research. Public & Science Sweden will then choose the competitors.
Before the competition, the selected researchers will be coached in presentation techniques and receive help with their performance. The presentation can be held in Swedish or English.
“It would be great to have researchers from Uppsala in the competition. The competition will take place on the SciFest stage in front of upper secondary school classes and a jury. We know there are loads of researchers who are good at talking about what they do,” says Katarina Holmborn Garpenstrand, project manager for SciFest.
Many activities at SciFest
The Researchers’ Grand Prix is just one of the many activities taking place at the SciFest science festival, which runs from 9 to 11 October. Visitors will have a chance to learn more about research by means of games, experiments, quizzes, competitions or other activities in which they can use their sense of smell and touch, listen and experience. The target audience is school classes and the general public.
SciFest is organised by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and Uppsala University. The festival is well attended, attracting up to around 8,000 visitors.
