Hello there, Per Bengtsson, new Academy Treasurer at the Uppsala University Foundations Management of Estates and Funds from 1 August 2025.

What does your new role as Academy Treasurer entail?

"I get the opportunity to lead and develop the management of the foundations and their assets that help to support and promote research at Uppsala University."

What is your background?

"My background is in agronomy with a specialisation in mechanical engineering and I have been head of a research unit as well as director of studies for the technology specialisation at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciencese (SLU). I have many years of experience as a founder, CEO and board member in the fields of agronomy, technology, food, IT and the real estate industry. For example, I was the founder and CEO of Uppsala Innovation Centre, where I worked with business development and raising capital for innovative companies from Uppsala University, SLU, and the business community. I was also involved in starting the School of Entrepreneurship at Uppsala University and SLU. Most recently, I have been working with investments in Swedish deeptech companies."

What are you looking forward to working with in your new role?

"Being able to work commercially with such a clear purpose – to support Swedish research and development – feels incredibly motivating. And being able to do this together with such competent colleagues makes it even more inspiring. The better the proceeds we can generate, the more we can contribute to research and progress."
