Being selected for the IVA List can give Uppsala University research projects greater visibility, new industry and societal links, and a clearer path towards real-world impact. Applications are open until 20 February.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) has opened applications and nominations for its 2026 List for Research Impact. The initiative highlights research projects with clear potential to create societal value. Nominations close on 13 February, and applications remain open until 20 February.

The IVA List for Research Impact features research projects within engineering and technological disciplines that demonstrate strong prospects for advancing towards innovation or application. By spotlighting these projects, IVA aims to strengthen connections between academia, industry and society, and accelerate the translation of research into practice.

Who can apply?

Applications are open to researchers and research teams within engineering and technology at Swedish universities and research institutes. To be eligible, projects should be sufficiently mature to be presented publicly and show realistic potential for creating value through commercialisation within a foreseeable timeframe.

IVA welcomes projects from a wide range of fields, including energy technology, biotechnology and life science, AI and digital technologies, materials engineering and space technology. Interdisciplinary projects are encouraged.

Opportunity to both apply and nominate

Research projects may also be nominated for inclusion on the IVA List. This means that all staff members can help highlight strong projects at Uppsala University. When a project is nominated, the responsible researcher is contacted by IVA and encouraged to submit a full application.

What does selection involve?

Applications are reviewed by an external committee focusing on the project’s potential to deliver societal benefit for example through innovation, new solutions or applications of clear relevance. Scientific quality is essential, but the assessment prioritises projects judged to have strong prospects for further development.

Projects selected for the IVA List gain:

  • national visibility
  • opportunities to participate in activities and meetings with industry and societal stakeholders
  • an enhanced position for collaboration, development and impact.

Support from UU Innovation

Researchers interested in applying can receive support from UU Innovation on how best to describe their project’s potential and societal value, outline its development pathway, and address questions related to intellectual property.
