University Board issues statement on free debate and freedom of expression
At its meeting on Thursday, the University Board discussed the recent debate connected to Chalmers University of Technology’s decision to forbid political demonstrations at that institution.
The Board of Uppsala University wishes to make the following statement:
The University Board welcomes debate. So long as they do not seriously disrupt teaching or create dangerous situations, students and teachers must be able to express different points of view in accordance with applicable regulations and our tradition of academic freedom.
The meeting’s agenda also included Internal Audit’s department audits, a follow-up of the IT incident earlier this year and adjustments to the operational plan following the Budget Bill in connection with the government’s decision on the engineering package.
Presentations were also given to the Board on this year’s Nobel Prizes.
