Would you like to honour one – or perhaps several – of your colleagues for their achievement in translating valuable knowledge into innovation and sustainable use? It is time for nominations for the Hjärnäpplet Innovation Prize. Nominations are welcome throughout the month of March 2024.

Every year Uppsala University awards the Hjärnäpplet prize to highlight innovations arising from the world of research, regardless of disciplinary domain. The prize is a way to honour and reward initiatives in research and utilisation that have led to new solutions that can make the world a little better and more sustainable.

Last year’s prizewinner was Inger Persson, senior lecturer and researcher at the Department of Statistics, who had developed an algorithm that can help health services detect the risk of sepsis in time. She co-founded the company AlgoDx with the aim of bringing her innovation to the market where it can save lives.

All members of staff at Uppsala University can nominate one or more candidates for the prize, which consists of a diploma, a statuette and a grant of SEK 50,000. The prize is presented at the celebration of the University’s foundation in October.

Don’t miss this chance to honour a colleague who has helped to put knowledge into practice and potentially make a difference in society. Since the prize is intended to reflect the University’s breadth, innovative capacity and pursuit of a sustainable future, nominations in all disciplines are welcome.

Nominations for Hjärnäpplet are open from 1–31 March 2024.
