The translators at the University Administration have been working on a long-awaited Swedish-English glossary for Uppsala University. The glossary has now been published on the University’s Staff Gateway.

“It’s important for communication at the University to be consistent and professional, and the glossary makes a big difference in that regard,” explains Luke Halls, Translator at the University Administration.

“Uppsala University has many different specific terms unique to the University that cannot be guessed or simply made up, such as names of department, administrative titles or course-specific terminology.”

A living document – a resource for all

The glossary is intended for anyone at the University who wants or needs to use it. However, it is a particularly important resource for administrative staff who write both internal and external texts and work on all types of communication and University-specific information.

“It can also be helpful to teachers when providing information about their courses, meaning students who are studying in both English and Swedish can also benefit indirectly from the glossary.”

Halls encourages all staff to get in touch with him at luke.halls@uu.se if they think a specific term should be added to the glossary.

“We will edit and update the glossary regularly, so we see it as a living document,” he adds.
