New Administrative Director for Science and Technology
Karin Berggren Bremdal started as the new Administrative Director of the Office for Science and Technology on 1 June 2024.
“I’m very proud to be associated with the activities within the disciplinary domain. The Office’s staff is a group of wonderful, forward-thinking and committed co-workers who are passionate about providing support to our students, staff and managers at different levels of the organisation. It feels like a real privilege for me to get to lead this work,” says Berggren Bremdal.
She started working at the Office of Science and Technology quite soon after completing her doctoral studies, and has had a number of different roles there over the years. She will be bringing all the skills and experience she acquired in these roles to her new managerial role.
“I’ve worked in the collaborations area, on doctoral education matters, and from 2017 I led the unit responsible for educational issues, supervision and recruitment of teaching staff at the Office. In my role as Deputy Administrative Director, I’ve worked closely with the faculty and department management teams. My experience has given me broad insight into the various tasks of the Office, the conditions that apply to those tasks, the joys and the challenges, and insight into the Faculty’s various operational areas.”
Challenges and collaborations
Some specific challenges that will be important to tackle in her new role include the financial conditions for the disciplinary domain’s courses and programmes, and making adjustments while maintaining the quality of the education provided.
“But our expertise in both current and new areas is also in high demand in Sweden. Making wise choices that create long-term stability while not dampening the appetite for further development is important. Navigating new circumstances and conditions is challenging but can also lead to change that is ultimately positive if we navigate them well.”
Berggren Bremdal stresses the importance of cooperation, sharing good examples and creating an understanding of the conditions and challenges that others are facing, in education and research as well as in operational support.
“We’re in the process of building up a new organisation for research and collaboration support at the University Administration. Moulding a new organisation and identifying new ways of working that can provide our researchers and management teams with even stronger support in research and collaboration matters is something I am very much looking forward to. Many different security-related issues have emerged and new opportunities are opening up where AI is a natural part of everyone’s day-to-day tasks. When it comes to these matters too, we need to navigate correctly and wisely.”
