Updated visual guidelines
The Vice-Chancellor has now approved revised visual guidelines for Uppsala University. One change is that the University will switch to new, licence-free fonts, while another is that the logo will also be made available to students.
The visual guidelines are University-wide and apply to both digital channels and graphic production. A review of the guidelines has been carried out by the Communications Division.
“We have updated the guidelines to help increase the University’s visibility and to give a more coherent impression. The logo is a seal of quality that signals trust,” notes Director of Communications Pernilla Björk.
In connection with the revision, the University’s ‘visual identity font’ Gill and Berling will be replaced by Work Sans and Cormorant Garamond respectively. These fonts are free to use and easily accessible in digital form online. As the previous visual identity fonts were subject to a fee, this will mean a financial saving for the University.
Students can use the logo
Another change is that students will now be able to use the logo in essays, papers and reports written for courses at the University.
“We will produce a design manual in the autumn to make it easier to take advantage of the asset that is our common visual identity,” continues Björk.
The design manual will be a living document, continuously updated with user-friendly templates and help pages on the Staff Gateway.
