Uppsala University is the best known higher education institution in the reputation index
More than one third of respondents are very well or fairly well aware of Uppsala University, and awareness of the University is also increasing among 18–29 year olds and 45–59 year olds. These are some of the results from the Anseendeindex Lärosäten 2024 (Reputation index of higher education institutions 2024), a survey that was published last autumn.
Uppsala University has scored about the same overall since 2015 and is now in shared third place after Chalmers and KTH, but in the category “best known higher education institution” the University ranked top. For the first time since 2012, Uppsala University is thus held in higher esteem than Lund University in this survey.
A majority have a positive image of the University
Awareness of the University in the age categories 18–29 and 45–59, as well as among men and residents outside the major cities, is increasing.
The vast majority, 92%, experience a positive image of Uppsala University in the media and the University also has the highest average rating in the categories “trust” and “overall good name”.
Fewer young people recognise the University from the media
When asked where they generally got their information, almost half, 47%, answered “friends/colleagues/family”, while “news in the media” is still the second most common source with 25%.
However, the proportion of people who responded “news in the media” is falling, which is particularly evident in the younger age groups. Therefore, it might be a challenge to find the right channels for external communications to reach out to these age groups.
Facts
The survey has been conducted since 2010. It was conducted by Verian Group and has previously been known as TNS Sifo and Kantar Public, with a focus on companies, higher education institutions, government agencies and organisations.
A total of 24 higher education institutions are included in this year’s survey, which is based on responses from a random sample of people between the ages of 18–79 in the Sifo Riks representative online panel. The responses were collected between 8 July and 7 August 2024.
