Uppsala University aspires to a leading role in the transition to a more sustainable society. The education and research we conduct translates into new knowledge, better technology, improvements in the organisation of society and changed patterns of behaviour. The University will also contribute to sustainable development in its own activities. This requires us to set an example in the management of finite resources and to actively address the climate impact of our own activities.

The environmental plan includes goals concerning Business travels, Buildings and Purchasing and reuse. Each area in the plan presents both university-wide measures and measures at department and campus management level. The results are reviewed and reported at a yearly basis when the University presents its environmental work to The Environmental Protection Agency and The Ministry of Education and Research according to The Ordinance on Environmental Management in Government Agencies (2009:907).
