Dear colleagues at Uppsala University and beyond, on behalf of the CIRCUS network Aquifers in the Anthropocene in collaboration with the Uppsala University Sustainability Initiative (UUSI) Water, a critical and shared resource, you are kindly invited to this upcoming research seminar:
Digging inside an aquifer – close encounters with aquifers and their water in northern Tanzania
Groundwater is a vital resource for sustaining food production across the globe, but it is also a resource and part of nature that few humans, unlike forests, soils, surface water (or perhaps even minerals), get in deliberate close contact with, i.e. while it is still in the ground. Starting from a position that it is important to listen to a plurality of different voices and perspectives on groundwater use and management, I will in this talk share some insights from well-diggers in northern Tanzania about how they experience and learn about the nature of aquifers, the risks with getting close, and how to get hold of the water within them.
The seminar will be held in English.
Venue: Old Observatory at Uppsala University & Zoom.
