Digital storytelling can be an effective tool for building understanding and empathy when it comes to complex topics like migration. It can make evidence and research more accessible, challenge misconceptions and stereotypes, amplify the voices of migrants and refugees, and encourage dialogue and the sharing of diverse perspectives.
Join Migration Matters at the Humanities Theatre for a film screening and interactive discussion to explore how we can shape the narrative on migration through digital storytelling and the challenges and opportunities it poses for informing research-based policy together with academics and migrants. The event will be an opportunity to examine different facets of migration within educational video ranging from return migration to the relationship between migration and climate change as well as more broadly discuss formats and methodologies of digital storytelling (co-)creation. The event is organized within the framework of the newly funded Horizon Europe project "GAPs: Decentring the Study of Migrant Returns and Readmission Policies in Europe and Beyond", co-hosted by the Centre for Multidisciplinary Research on Religion and Society (CRS) and the Centre for Integrated Research on Culture and Society (CIRCUS).
ABOUT MIGRATION MATTERS
Migration Matters e.V. (MM) is a media NGO founded by four migrant women in 2016 in response to media coverage about the so-called ‘refugee crisis’ with the mission of helping the public navigate complex issues related to migration. Through video and digital storytelling, the MM team makes research, evidence, and original perspectives on migration and diversity issues accessible to the public to encourage evidence-based debate and, ultimately, to combat increasing polarization and discrimination. MM has produced over 150 videos on topics ranging from the relationship between migration and climate change to integration and diversity that feature academic experts, practitioners, the public, and those with lived experience.
