With an aim to transcend institutional differences in historical research, the ”PhD Colloquium for Historical Studies” investigates what it entails to do historical work. Over the course of multiple seminars, doctoral students are invited to meet and discuss both differing and overlapping perspectives on historical studies.

While the Colloquium emanated as an idea to bring together PhD students within the three disciplines of History, Economic History and History of Ideas, many other disciplines exist at Uppsala University with a historical focus in the featured research topics. As such anyone with a historical methodology or perspective in their doctoral project are warmly welcome to attend.

The seminar will feature a presentation by Diego Castañeda, with the title of "Uncensoring the censored country". Diego's PhD work deals with wealth distribution in Mexico from the time of its independence up until the present day, and the presentation will problematize aspects of conducting this research

Attendees need to register beforehand, but do otherwise not have to do any preparatory work. Discussion is based on a presentation held by one of the PhD students.

Most importantly, sandwiches and fika is provided for attendees to allow for a sociable and welcoming atmosphere.

If you are a PhD student interested in attending, please contact maya.strom@idehist.uu.se for more information and registration.

This seminar series is an initiative by PhD students, supported by CIRCUS.
