Warm welcome to a book discussion on the CIRCUS Interdisciplinary Insights series, with a special focus on the volume Role-playing Games for Interdisciplinary Research Collaborations, developed by researchers from the Department of Game Design.

CIRCUS Interdisciplinary Insights

In the autumn of 2024, CIRCUS launched the first three volumes of the CIRCUS Interdisciplinary Insights book series. The aim of this series is to highlight important aspects of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research, inspiring both practical applications and reflective discussions.

The volume Role-playing Games for Interdisciplinary Research Collaborations explores how role-playing games can be used as tools to broaden perspectives on cross-disciplinary collaboration dynamics. It also includes concrete scenarios designed for role-playing various fictional situations related to interdisciplinary research collaborations.

During the seminar, you will learn a bit more about the ideas behind the book series. Sarah Lynne Bowman and Josefin Westborg, editors of Role-playing Games, will present insights from their contribution, followed by Doris Rusch, who will discuss her essay The Game of Academia – Playing with Qualities, one of the featured essays in the book.

After the seminar, light refreshments will be served, and attendees will have the opportunity to explore the books.
