The journalist and author Martin Gelin will in this lecture talk about his forthcoming book, Rules of Attraction: Why Soft Power Matters in Hard Times (Headline, 2026 and Volante, 2025.).

Making sense of our time poster

For six years, Gelin has investigated how soft power, propaganda and information warfare affect our political environment and the global crisis for democracy. Authoritarians today spend more resources on soft power, cultural diplomacy and propaganda than liberal democracies do. To contain the rise of authoritarianism, open societies must also take soft power seriously.
