Why is listening so often overlooked in collaborative work, despite being essential for meaningful communication? By actively listening, teams can engage in deeper discussions, break down disciplinary barriers, and create a more positive work environment. However, listening can be challenging, and various circumstances may hinder the ability to actively listen, further complicating effective collaboration.

In this seminar, Christine Helling will share insights from her master’s thesis on interdisciplinary listening, where she explores barriers that prevent effective listening in interdisciplinary teams and how listening can contribute to a psychologically safe team climate. Throughout the seminar, you will have the opportunity to identify and discuss your own listening challenges. Additionally, you will gain awareness of both personal and collective barriers to listening, as well as insights into the power of listening in shaping a team’s communication climate. Theoretical perspectives and practical tools will be presented to support active listening, facilitating the bridging of disciplinary boundaries and unlocking the full potential of interdisciplinary work.
