Ceremony and tradition as new doctors are conferred – jubilee doctors honoured
At this year’s spring conferment ceremony, the Faculty of Science and Technology celebrates both achievement and tradition. A new generation of doctoral graduates will be conferred, while twenty-eight doctors who graduated in 1976 return to Uppsala University to be honoured as jubilee doctors.
The faculty warmly welcomes the jubilee doctors back and remembers with gratitude those who are no longer with us.
- It is an honour to take part in and uphold this fine tradition at Uppsala University, says Anders Arweström Jansson, Professor of Human–Computer Interaction and this year’s promotor.
A ceremony bridging generations
The conferment marks an important milestone for the new doctors as they enter the research community. At the same time, past and present are brought together as jubilee doctors return fifty years after their own doctoral graduation.
– I am looking forward to leading the new doctors across the stage after they have received their degrees and to recognising those who came before them, says Anders Arweström Jansson.
Atmosphere, pride and words of advice
For many, the ceremony is one of life’s most memorable moments – something the promotor also emphasises.
– The music really enhances the atmosphere; I find it very moving, he says.
He also offers a piece of advice to the newly conferred doctors:
– Take in the atmosphere. Enjoy one of life’s great moments—and stay with that feeling for a while.
A starting point for the future
While the conferment marks the culmination of many years of study and research, it is also the beginning of something new. The faculty therefore extends its warmest congratulations to this year’s doctors and wishes them every success in their future careers.
