ENLIGHT Joint Courses – Students – Uppsala University

ENLIGHT Joint Courses

As a student at Uppsala University, you have the opportunity to apply for freestanding courses abroad through the network ENLIGHT. These courses are offered as a combination of physical and virtual teaching through what is called blended mobility.

ENLIGHT Joint Courses are freestanding courses offered in physical, virtual and mixed teaching formats, that is, courses that include both physical and virtual components.

The courses range between 3 and 10 credits. Within the range of freestanding courses there are also interdisciplinary courses at both bachelor’s and master’s level. Entry requirements can be found in the respective course descriptions.

To explore the possibilities of transferring credits for a course, you need to contact your academic advisor or study coordinator before applying for the course. Follow the link to learn more about transfer of credits.

The courses available for application for autumn 2026 will be published here shortly.

About ENLIGHT Joint Courses

To apply for freestanding courses you must meet the following requirements:

  • You are registered as a student at Uppsala University during the semester of the freestanding course.
  • You are registered on 30 higher education credits at Uppsala University at the time of application. These credits must be completed no later than the start of the following semester, or at the start of the freestanding course if there are special reasons. If you are currently on an academic leave of absence that is registered in Ladok, you will be granted an exemption. Attach the decision certificate to your application.
  • You intend to complete your degree at Uppsala University.
  • You must meet the entry requirements for the specific course you are applying for. Requirements are described under each course.
  • If you are taking a freestanding course in a blended teaching format, you must be able to physically attend the partner university during the mandatory physical part of your blended mobility. Course dates are listed under each course.
  • You do not have an exchange semester planned for the same semester as the freestanding course.
  • You need to meet the entry requirements for the course. Entry requirements can be found in the respective course descriptions.

Students who have not previously been offered a place on a freestanding course through ENLIGHT will be given priority.

How many times can I apply?

There are no restrictions on how many times you may apply during your studies at Uppsala University, but you may apply for maximum three courses per semester. Also, please note that you can only receive the Erasmus grant for studies or the Erasmus grant for blended mobility for a total of 360 days per study level.

Fee-paying students who are enrolled in a full-time study programme at Uppsala University, are eligible to apply for freestanding ENLIGHT courses abroad.

To know if you can take the course as part of your 30 credits study load next semester, please consult with your programme coordinator before applying. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure to communicate with the department to know if the freestanding ENLIGHT course can be included the programme.

The credits for the course have the same fee as your other credits at Uppsala University. This means that if you can include the course in your study programme (for example by taking 25 credits in Uppsala, and a 5 credit freestanding ENLIGHT course), you will pay the tuition fee for 30 credits as usual.

If you, for example, want to take 30 credits in Uppsala next semester, and an additional 5 credits at an ENLIGHT university, Uppsala University will charge for the additional ECTS credits before the semester begins, based on your tuition fee. You, as a student, have to ask for this invoice at feemaster@uu.se, and indicate “ENLIGHT extra course” in the title of your email.

Students with a residence permit

Students studying in Sweden on a residence permit should check with the Swedish Migration Agency that participation in freestanding courses outside Sweden does not affect their residence permit. Please refer to the Swedish Migration Agency's website.

If you plan to take ENLIGHT Joint Courses in a blended teaching format, you can apply for the Erasmus grant for blended mobility. The grant can be applied for if you are admitted to a course or programme that combines physical mobility (for a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 30 days) with a mandatory virtual component either before, during, or after the physical mobility. You can find more information on the pages about the Erasmus grant for blended mobility.

ENLIGHT Joint Courses are courses aimed at students studying at one of the ten universities that are part of the ENLIGHT alliance. The courses are offered by one or more of the alliance’s partner universities.

Please note that the course offering varies between calls and that not all universities offer courses in every call.

Application

The application is open:

  • 15 March–15 April for studies in the autumn semester of 2026
  • 15 October–15 November for studies in the spring semester of 2027

The application and other mandatory documentation are submitted electronically through the application system MoveON.

In your application, you will need to include your academic Transcript of Records. The transcript of records can be obtained from Ladok. If you have studied at other Swedish universities, please attach a national transcript of records.

If you have completed a full Bachelor's degree at a foreign university, we also request that you include this document.

If you apply for a freestanding course or summer course through ENLIGHT and meet the application requirements, you will be offered the opportunity to enrol in the course, provided there are available places If we receive more applications than there are available places, a lottery will be conducted to ensure everyone has a fair chance of securing a place in the course.

After the application period has ended, all applicants will receive a notification regarding the outcome of their application.

If you are offered a place in the course, you have a few days to accept or decline the offer, and you must do so within the communicated timeframe. It is important to monitor your email, including your spam folder, and respond promptly. If you do not respond, it will be treated as though you have declined the offer.

You will be nominated to the host university that offers the course you want to take. After that, you will be contacted by them, and they will send you the application information. Please carefully read through all the instructions that are sent to you. For questions regarding the application, you should first contact your coordinator at the Unit for International Mobility unless otherwise instructed.

Once the host university has received and processed your application, you will receive an admission decision. The processing time for courses varies between host universities, so it may take some time before you receive your admission decision. Please note that while we offer the opportunity to enrol in a freestanding course, it is always the host university that decides whether you meet the requirements for admission or not.

Accommodation and travel

Once you receive your admission decision, you can start planning for your course, including activities such as searching for accommodation and transport to your destination.

Students who are taking a freestanding course abroad need to arrange and finance accommodation and travel to and from the physical part of their blended mobility on their own. You can apply for a grant from Erasmus, which can be used for travel and accommodation.
