Travel support
All Erasmus grant holders automatically receive a travel grant. The grant is based on the distance in a straight line between the departure location (Uppsala) and the location where the physical part of the course takes place.
- The distance is calculated using the European Commission's distance calculator tool.
- Green travel includes travelling by train and carpooling, but not boats.
Higher grant for sustainable travel
If you choose to travel sustainably to your final destination (e.g. by bike, train, bus or carpool), you are entitled to additional funds. You are also entitled to up to 2 additional scholarship days to cover longer travel time. These days will be added to your total study period in your Grant Agreement.
How do I apply?
To apply for the additional funds, you must indicate directly in the scholarship application in MoveON that you plan to travel sustainably to your study destination. You will need to upload receipts, such as train tickets or fuel receipts, from the sustainable means of transport in MoveON at the end of your Erasmus activity.
The following applies to be eligible to receive additional support for sustainable means of transport:
- The majority of the journey – round trip – must be made by a sustainable means of transport. Sustainable means of transport include bicycles, buses, trains and carpooling.
- For carpooling to be approved, there must be at least two people in the car. As proof of carpooling, you can upload receipts from car rental, petrol, bridge and tolls.
- Your journey must start at the location where the sending organisation is located (Uppsala or Visby), and end at the location where the activity for which you received the scholarship takes place, i.e., the location where the receiving organisation is located. If you are travelling by a different route, please inform us via email at erasmus@uu.se.
- You can combine different sustainable modes of transport. For example, you may include a ferry for a shorter distance if the rest of the journey (round trip) is made by means of transport that are classified as sustainable according to the scholarship.
- You may not fly for any part of the journey.
Note:
If you make stops that are not required for the trip itself – for example, if you stay longer than necessary to sightsee along the way or if you deviate from the optimal travel route for other reasons – the insurance that you automatically receive from Kammarkollegiet when you have an Erasmus scholarship does not apply. It only applies to as direct a trip as possible. Review your insurance coverage if you are planning to make these kinds of stops along the way.
