Short Erasmus Traineeship
A short Erasmus traineeship means that you can participate in a traineeship, field studies, or any other form of study-related activity for a period of 5–30 days at a company, organisation, or university within the EU. A short Erasmus traineeship must be in a blended traineeship format.
What does a blended traineeship format mean?
A blended traineeship format means a combination of a physical part performed at the traineeship site outside Sweden and a virtual part performed remotely. You are only eligible for the grant during the physical part of the short Erasmus traineeship. This applies to students from Uppsala University at all levels: Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD. However, PhD students are exempt from the requirement to have a mandatory virtual component.
The physical part of the traineeship
The following applies to the physical part of the blended mobility:
- Must be performed on-site at the placement location
- Must be at least 5 and at most 30 days
- You are eligible for the grant for the physical part
The virtual part of the traineeship
The following applies to the virtual part of the blended mobility:
- Must be performed remotely
- Can be done either before, during, or after the physical part with any length
How can I participate in an short Erasmus traineeship?
There are four different ways to go on an traineeship with an Erasmus grant:
1. Within the framework of a traineeship course at Uppsala University
You conduct a traineeship at a company, university or an organisation within Europe. Uppsala University will be responsible for the assessment and grading of the course. Your credits will be registered as internship/traineeship, not as a regular study course.
2. Within the framework of a degree project/thesis
You are registered for a degree project/thesis in Ladok that will be assessed in Uppsala (and your credits will be counted towards your thesis/dissertation, not a regular university course), but will conduct your data collection at a university, company or organisation in Europe. Your supervisor at Uppsala University must approve the placement/data collection. During a traineeship, you are not allowed to register for courses at the host university.
3. Outside your regular study programme
You conduct a traineeship outside of your regular study programme, but before graduation from Uppsala University. You cannot receive credits for the traineeship, however you may apply to have the traineeship registered as a note in your Diploma Supplement when you graduate from Uppsala University. A member of your department must be able to confirm the traineeship’s academic relevance.
4. Traineeship after graduation
It is possible to conduct an Erasmus traineeship after graduation, however you must apply for the traineeship grant during your final semester at Uppsala University whilst you are still a student. You cannot receive credits for the traineeship. The entire traineeship must be completed within 12 months of the date on which your final course at Uppsala University is registered as completed. If you are going to participate in the traineeship after graduation, a member of your department must be able to confirm the traineeship’s academic relevance.
What does the grant consist of?
The grant does not provide full cost coverage. It is intended to cover additional costs during your traineeship. The size of the grant may vary from one year to the other.
You are eligible for the grant only during the physical part of the short Erasmus traineeship. Additionally, you receive the grant for two extra days: one day before and one day after the physical part of the mobility.
When the grant is calculated, the exchange rate used is that of the European Central Bank's exchange rate on the date Uppsala University prepares the payment. That is 7–10 days before you receive the payment in your account.
Grant levels:
- Up to the 14th activity day in the host country: 79 €/day
- 15th to 30th activity day in the host country: 56 €/day
