Information about the issues with Studium

All features in Studium are now reactivated. The reason these features were previously disabled was due to a previous security incident.

This has happened

• Uppsala University uses the learning platform Canvas, a cloud-based service for providing information and facilitating communication about programmes and courses. The platform is used by thousands of educational institutions around the world.
• The Canvas learning platform has been hacked and personal data from Uppsala University has been leaked via Studium, which is used by students and staff.
• Uppsala University has reported this as a personal data breach to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).
• As a precautionary measure, functions and links between Studium and other systems have been disabled for some time.
• The learning platform provider is currently investigating what has happened. The information that may have been compromised includes names, email addresses and messages exchanged between users. The provider is investigating the extent of the breach, and Uppsala University is monitoring the investigation in consultation with the provider.
