Welcome to Uppsala University
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Sweden, and thank you for choosing Uppsala University. Here, you will learn alongside the current world leaders in research and education, and be given all of the tools and opportunities needed to shape your own future. While you are a student here we encourage you to take advantage of the breadth of our university and sign up for a course at a faculty you hadn’t originally considered. Be critical, ask questions, and make your voice heard in the classroom in order to make your time here as stimulating and rewarding as possible!
Balance is something you will achieve by combining your studies with an active social life. There are a wealth of extra-curricular activities to choose from, with four student unions and 13 student nations providing many opportunities for you to get involved. In doing so, you will learn more about the Swedish culture, Uppsala University's long traditions, and expand your network to include fellow staff and students from all corners of the world. You will learn just as much outside of the classroom, and this combined with your academic achievements will make you an attractive asset on the international job market.
Cycling is a good way to discover the cultural treasures of Uppsala and Gotland. Purchasing a bicycle is one of the cheapest, most convenient and environmentally friendly ways for you to get around. It will also give you the freedom to explore more of your surroundings.
You are now a part of Uppsala University's long and incredible history, and my colleagues and I are here to help you along the way. If you have any questions or concerns about your study options, please feel free to contact staff members at the International Office, our study and career counsellors, or your programme coordinators. You can also join our international Facebook page and read what other international students are doing on the Tagged4UU blog.
Once again, welcome to Uppsala University. Your future starts here!

Vice-Chancellor of Uppsala University
