Entry requirements
At least two years of basic courses in Natural Sciences, equivalent to 50 points/75 ECTS credits in Biology and 20 points/30 ECTS credits in Chemistry. Biology courses should include Cell Biology, Genetics and Gene Technology, Structure and Physiology of Organisms, and Ecology. Alternatively, one year of Chemistry together with 20 points/30 ECTS credits in Biology including Structure and Physiology of Organisms and Genetics and Gene Technology.
Aims
The course will give basic theoretical and practical knowledge in cellular and molecular immunology.
Content
The components of the immune defence and the immune apparatus. Antigens, immunogens and haptens. Immunoglobulins and antibody formation. Complemente system. The cellular basis of the immune systems: different cell types and their differentiation from haematopoietical ancestral cells. The importance of T-lymphycytes and the thymus for immunological functions. The cellular and humoral regulation of the immune defence. The function of different granulocytes and mast cells in the humoral immuno system. Immune genetics, transplantation immunology. Hypersensitiveness. Auto immunity. Immunochemical methods in diagnostics and biochemical analysis.
Instruction
Lectures, seminars, laboratory work. Participation in the laboratory work and seminars is mandatory.
Assessment
Examinations are arranged during and at the end of the course. A passing grade for the entire course requires also satisfactory performance in the laboratory work and seminars.
