Mathematics 37.5 credits and 37.5 credits physics, Synoptic meteorology and weather chart analysis 7.5 credits, Basic dynamic meteorology 7.5 credits.

Learning outcomes

After the course the student

- shall have gained a deeper understanding of dynamic meteorology

- be able to analyse the atmosphere's vertical structure using a quasi-geostrophic model

- be able to describe the motions of planitary waves

- shall know the cause of baroclinic inatabiliy

- be able to describe energy shifts on the synoptic scale

- understand simple barotropic and baroclinic model's on a synoptic scale

Content

Dynamic of large scale atmospheric motions and its development. Quasi geostrophic analysis. Atmospheric oscillations, wave theory and perturbation technique. Baroclinic instability. The general circulation. Dynamic of mid-latitude weather systems.
