Learning outcomes
After completing this course, the student is expected to be able to adapt and apply the microeconomic toolkit to a variety of real world economic problems.
Content
The course considers topics such as information asymmetries, uncertainty, imperfect competition and different types of games. The microeconomic tools will be used to analyse a variety economic problems, such as:
- What determines the price of used cars?
- Is piracy necessarily harmful?
- Why do some individuals commit crime?
- What is the optimal tax rate?
- Why is health insurance often publicly provided?
Instruction
The class material will mainly be presented in lectures. There will, however, also be seminars and exercises during the class.
Assessment
The course will be examined by a compulsory term paper and a written exam.
There will be three grades: pass with distinction (VG), pass (G) and fail (U).
