Entry requirements
All mandatory courses in organic chemistry within grades 1-3 of the current Programme must be completed.
Aims
After completing the course, the student shall possess knowledge and skills enabling her/him to address issues in medicinal chemistry, such as structure-activity relationships, organic chemical nomenclature and drug design.
Content
Drugs are discussed from an organic-chemical point of view. Focus is set on structure-activity relationships, mainly the influence of stereochemical and physical-chemical properties on drug absorption, action and excretion. Other topics covered are drug synthesis, computer-aided drug design, nomenclature and keeping qualities.
Instruction
Instruction will be provided in the form of lectures and seminars.
Assessment
Examination will be held at the end of the course.
