Aims
After the course, the student will be able to:
- apply the fundamentals of reaction engineering (Isothermal, ideal batch-, tube- and tank reactors)
- formulate mathematical models for mole- and energy balances.
- modelling by means of computational means (MATLAB).
- account for fermentation as a tool in the manufacturing of biotechnological products, with special emphasis on drugs.
The student will also be able to:
- Design a process for industrial production of a substance (open project)
- Make a literature review an propose a favourable process solution
- Make a project plan
- Construct the process
- Manufacture the substance
- Evaluate the result including economy, scale dependence and quality specifications.
After the course, the student will be able to participate in process design and development.
Content
Process design. Reaction engineering. Theoretical modelling in chemical engineering. Fermentation Down stream processing. Scale up and relations between raw materials, processes, products and enterprise.
Instruction
Lectures, tutorials, seminars, laboratory lessons, educational visits at industries.
Assessment
Written examination at the end of the course. Laboratory work and seminars are assigned 2 points.
