Entry requirements

Knowledge and skills corresponding to 45 ECTS credits in Earth Science, Engineering or Geography.

Learning outcomes

After successful participation the student should be able to

  • understand the physical principles of remote sensing
  • handle and analyse digital images
  • choose suitable image data
  • access sources for digital imagery
  • plan and conduct remote sensing project independently
  • present and document the results of the study

Content

Method in remote sensing, physical properties of the atmosphere, and spectral properties of objects on earth's surface. Registration, creation and storage of different kind of images from air- and space borne sensors. Extraction and visualisation of the information contained in the imagery through different methods of image processing. The course contains field work with digital processing of earth science information.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars, group exercises, demonstrations and field course in form of excursions. Attendance in Seminars, group exercises, demonstrations and field course in form of excursions is compulory.

Assessment

Examination is held at the end of the course. Grading on the scale 3, 4 or 5 is given provided all exercises; field course reports and seminars are completed and deemed approved. Written examination corresponds to 7 ECTS, seminars 2 ECTS, group exercises 2 ECTS, individual exercises 2 ECTS and field course 2 ECTS.

A student who fails the examination can be examined again either at the beginning of the autumn or the spring term.
