Entry requirements

Knowledge and skill corresponding to Earth Sciences – Planet Earth NV1 20 points (30 ECTS) and general requirements for university studies in Natural Sciences.

Learning outcomes

After completion of the course the student should have

• an overall picture of the geological resources and of the Earth's environment over a geological time scale
• a good understanding of the environmental impact by exploitation of various geological resources
• be familiar with geoscientific decisions applicable to environmental issues and various methods for preservation and restoration.

Content

Earth's lithosphere, atmosphere and hydrosphere. Natural and induced hazards. Resources and consequences of their exploitation. Management of waste material. Influence of anthropogenic activities on soil, water and air. Medical Geology. Planning, execution and evaluation of soil and water investigations focused on contaminated areas.

Instruction

Lectures, practicals and study tours.

Assessment

Examination is arranged during and/or at the end of the course. The laboratory work must also be passed. Students who have failed a test have the right to take a new examination at the end of the automn semester, after Christmas vacations and at the end of the spring semester. The written exam and practical work corresponds to 11 credits and 4 credits respectively.
