Aims
The course mediates knowledge about methods used in bioinformatics by introducing basic software and show applications within molecular biology. General questions on the role of bioinformatics within society are discussed, including medical, evolutionary, functional and agricultural issues.
Content
The following issues are discussed: What implications do the access of global databases and common storage possibilities have on biological information? Can bioinformatics explain the information raised from the human genome, and if so, on what conditions? How is bioinformatics used by Swedish pharmaceutical industry? What can bioinformatics teach us about the big questions: from where do we originate and how are the different forms of biological life related to each other?
