Entry requirements
Introduction to computers.
Aims
After having taken this course the students shall
be able to describe how the parts of a computer
are designed and how they function, like its
control unit, working memory, systems for I/O
functions as well as the most common external
units inclusive of mass memories. The students
shall also know how to program in an assembler
language.
Content
The course covers von Neumann style architectures,
as well as micro and assembly programming for such
architectures. Other important topics studied in
the course are: the internal structure of
CPU s and ALU s, memory architectures, I/O-systems
and bus-structures. The course also covers
some alternative architectures.
Laboratory work: Assembly programming, serial
Lectures, lessons and laboratory work. Written examination at the end of the course. Passed laboratory course and compulsory assignments are also required. No reading list found.Instruction
