Entry requirements

Theory of functions.

Aims

The aim of the course is to give a modern and

practical introduction to the methods of

functional analysis. The emphasis will be put on

the geometric and computational aspects of the

subject.

Content

Normed spaces, Banach and Hilbert spaces.

Orthogonal projections. Geometry of Hilbert

spaces. Linear operators and linear functionals.

Strong and weak convergence. Banach's contraction

principle. Selected applications.

Instruction

Lectures and problem solving sessions.

Assessment

Written examination at the end of the course.
