Entry requirements

Calculus. Mechanics. Hydraulics. Chemistry, basic

course. Physical chemistry including

thermodynamics. Analytical chemistry. Organic Chemistry. Biology and

earth science. Biology II. Hydrology. Meteorology

and climatology.

Aims

To give the basics in soil chemistry, soil physics

and soil biology. To train the student to apply this knowledge

qualitatively and quantitatively. The soil uses shall be evaluated from the point of view of system analysis where international soil classification systems and knowledge of soil and plant processes are important components.

Content

Basic concepts in soil chemistry, soil physics and

soil biology. Soil types: classification, properties and utilisation. Project work including system simulation modelling with respect to processes in soil and to different soil utilisation alternatives, based on laboratory and field measurements. Training in written and oral presentation. The grading Pass/Fail is applied.

Instruction

Lectures, Seminars, Lessons, Computer exercises,

Laboratory work, Field work, Project work.

Assessment

Written examinations in soil chemistry, soil

physics, soil biology and soil classification.

Seminars, laboratory, field and project works are

compulsory. Accepted reports from laboratory and

project works.
