Learning outcomes

For a pass mark, the student must be able to

  • present a detailed understanding of central parts of least one object-oriented programming language, for example by in detail explaining what simple programs compute.
  • use and compare object-oriented programming languages and use object-oriented programming methodology to design and implement own programs.
  • present a basic understanding of the object-oriented paradigm, for example by explaining how larger programming assignments can be solved in it and discuss different solutions.
  • present a basic understanding of object-oriented analysis and design, for example by explaining how different realistic problems can be described in some modelling language.
  • present an understanding of the modelling language and the connection between the modelling language and the programming language, for example by explaining designs given in the modelling language, implementing simple models given in the modelling language or describing simple programs with help of the modelling language.

Content

Programming in some object-oriented programming language. Basic principles for object-oriented programming, the class concept, inheritance. Principles for object-oriented programming languages.

Object-oriented programming methodology. Object oriented analysis and design. Some modelling language, for example UML.

Instruction

Lectures, lessons, laboratory work, seminars.

Assessment

The course is examined by written examination (3 credits) and assignments within a project (4.5 credits).
