Aims

The aims are to give fundamental knowledge of

the planning of groundwater resources, and the

geohydraulic foundations for this work.

Content

Physical properties and principles of groundwater flow. Steady state and transient flow. Flow nets

(with simulations). Groundwater resources: Aquifers, regional groundwater flow and formation,

age determination of groundwater. Groundwater hydraulics, pumping tests (field trial and

simulations of pumping tests), water resources planning and water provision. Salt water intrusion.

Steady and transient seepage under dams and dam-failures, groundwater inflows in tunnels.

Groundwater contamination and transport of contaminants, behaviour of contaminants and

measurement of transport parameters. Groundwater planning: examples and exercises.

Field work.

Assessment

Written examination with problems and theory questions at the end of the course.
