Entry requirements

Introduction to Environmental and Water Engineering, Aquatic Environmental Analysis, Electromagnetism I or BSc degree in Earth science

Learning outcomes

The student will in this course acquire methodological skills, with focus on environmental investigations.

After completion of the course the student shall know

  • how to choose measurement site (in- and outdoor) and measurement method
  • measurement principles used within environmental measurement techniques
  • how to describe the measurements representativity in time and space
  • how to use data collecting systems
  • how to evaluate collected data

Content

The course proceeds from the task to make an environment related investigation. Different problems with such an investigation are treated in the course relating to choice of measurement site and measurement sensors.

Important parts are: Representativity in time and space of the measurements, treatment of measured data as regards correlation with distance, data acquisition systems, and data processing.

Instruction

Seminars, lectures, laboratory exercises, and a project investigation.

Assessment

Grading on the scale 3 demands an approved project investigation (3 credits) and approved laboratory exercises (2 credits). To get the possibility for a higher grading a written examination is given at the end of the course.
