Learning outcomes

After the course, the student should be able to account for:

  • different methods to generate hydrogen gas including renewable hydrogen gas and hydrogen gas from sun and water
  • different methods to store hydrogen gas including knowledge of metal hydrides
  • different batteries and fuel cells
  • possibilities and consequences of hydrogen gas as energy carriers in a future hydrogen gas society.

Content

Hydrogen gas as an energy carrier. Energy storing. The hydrogen gas society and the challenges of the transport sector, inter alia in the form of lectures and seminars/demonstrations within: Different methods to produce hydrogen gas. Renewable hydrogen gas. Hydrogen gas from sun and water. Different ways to store hydrogen gas. Metal hydrides. The chemistry and function of the common battery systems and fuel cells.

Instruction

Lectures, demonstrations and laboratory work.

Assessment

Written examination at the end of the course (4 HE-credits). For approval, passed laboratory course is also required (1 HE-credit).
