General provisions
The content, length and level of the education are regulated by chapter 1, section 9 of the Higher Education Act 1 (1992:1434), by the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), and by the Ordinance on changes to the Higher Education Ordinance (2006:1053).
Entry requirements
Passed courses in term 2 and at least 15 credit points passed courses in term 3.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course, the students should be able to:
- have good knowledge in the radiation dose concepts and the laws, constitutions and general rules in connetion to ionising radiation
- be familiar with some different types of image reconstructions that can be performed on a work station
describe
- the amount of risk factors associated with the use of ionising radiation within radiology
- how good radiation hygenic measures are created and maintained
- the structure, scanning techniques, image reconstruction and detector systems of the computer tomography equipment and understand how window techniques are applied in computed tomography
- the meaning of adapted mAs at computed tomography examinations and how this influences the radiation dose given to the patient
- the physical principles behind the magnetic resonance phenomenon
- how spin echo arises and understand the difference between spin- and gradient echo (GRE)
- the spin-echo sequence (SE) and how the image contrast varies with the image parameters TE and TR
- the technical structure of a magnetic imaging system
- the relaxation procedures (T1, T2)
- how the MR-signal is detected

Clinical studies: 1.5 credit points
Laboratory sessions in technology regarding computed tomography and computer exercises regarding magnetic resonance imaging

Assessment
Examination, as written and oral presentations, individually and in groups
Students failing examinations, have the right to participate in renewed examination on another 4 occasions (In totalt 5 examinations)
