Entry requirements

120 credits of science and knowledge and achievements corresponding to course Spectroscopy, 10 hskp.

Learning outcomes

A modern experimental laboratory uses modularized equipment. The objective of the course is to teach how electronic modules are interfaced to each other and how they communicate.

After the course the student should:

- have achieved knowledge of the function and application of instruments and electronic equipment that are commonly used in research laboratories.

- be able to independently design an experimental strategy for correct measurements.

- be able to describe various sources of errors and perturbations.

Content

Instrumentations, electronic devices and experimental methods that are utilised in a research laboratory. Basic electronic circuits. Electronic equipment and its practical use; oscilloscopes, amplifiers, detectors, boxcars, lock-in amplifiers etc. Sources of noise and errors, shielding and impedance matching.

Instruction

Lectures, problem classes and practical work.

Assessment

Indvidual project work and/or written examination at the end of the course, 4 credits. The laboratory work corresponds to 1 credit. The final grade is weighted.
