Learning outcomes

The student should acquire knowledge of commonly used methods for usability evaluations and their scientific basis.

After a successful completion of the course module the student is expected to:

Knowledge and understanding

- be able to give an account of commonly used methods for usability evaluations.

- demonstrate basic knowledge of how to chose a suitable method in different circumstances

- demonstrate basic knowledge of of the ethical guidelines governing investigations using human subjects.

Skills

- be able to, with guidance, perform and analyse a lab based usability evaluation

- be able to successfully communicate the result of a usability evaluation

- be able to perform a heuristic evaluation

Values and attitudes

- be able to reflect on the possibilities and risks associated with the choice of different evaluation methods

- demonstrate an awareness of the integrity and rights of test persons

Content

Expert based, rule based, survey based and lab based usability evaluation methods. Field studies, Documenting usability evaluations.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars, tutoring, group work and self-directed learning

Assessment

The students are assed through the quality of their coursework and the results on a written exam.
