General provisions
Substitutes the earlier course 3FK003 Analytical Pharmaceutical Chemistry. 1.5 credit points correspond to 1 credit point according to earlier ordinance.
Entry requirements
For students within the pharmacy programme: gone through all earlier courses within the programme. For students on single subject course: General Pharmaceutical Chemistry 7.5 credits/5 credit points or equivalent.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course the student shall be able to: - give examples of typical issues of analytical chemical nature at development and control of pharmaceuticals - describe the electrochemical cell and account for its usage for pH determination - the principle for the titrimetic quantitative analysis of pharmaceutical substances - calculate conditions for distribution and separation of drug molecules with liquid-liquid extraction - the basic principles for the UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, fluorometry, atomic absorption and atomic emission and account for carrying out quantitative and qualitative analyses within the pharmaceutical field - the basic principles for liquid chromatography, thin layer chromatography and gas chromatography - account for quantitative analysis of drug molecules with chromatographic techniques - account for the aim of validation of an analytical method and define the most common concepts that are included in the validation - be familiar with basic experimental methodology within drug analysis
Content
The course is mainly aimed at principles for quantitative analyses and contains: - measured values processing - chemical equilibria and titrimetric analysis - basic isolation - and separation methodology - basic absorption and emission spectroscopy - pH electrode
Instruction
The teaching is given as lectures, seminars and laboratory sessions. Compulsory parts of the course: Course introduction. All laboratory elements.
Assessment
Examination is organised during the course and at the end of the course. The results of laboratory exercises are presented orally and in writing. Possibility to supplement failed laboratory course can be given at the earliest at next course and only in case of a vacancy. For passed in the course, passed laboratory course (examination code) and passed examination (examination code) are required. Each student has the right to in all 6 examinations, i.e. one examination and five re-examinations.
